3 Things on a Saturday Night With Author K.E. Bonner

It’s Saturday night! I’m here with author K.E. Bonner, as part of the Witching Moon blog tour over at WOW! Women on Writing. Her book is perfect for tweens, teens, and readers who enjoy historical fantasy.

Before I share her book with you, here are author K.E. Bonner’s suggestions for your Saturday night!

Reading Suggestion: It’s Saturday night and I want something lighthearted and a little steamy. Curling up with When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn is akin to eating fluffy puffs of cotton candy and sipping champagne: it’s bubbly, light, and deliciously sinful. Infamous rake, Micheal Stirling, is in love with his cousin’s wife, Francesca Bridgerton. When his cousin dies Micheal inherits the earldom and Francesca is free, but she is heartbroken and sees Micheal as nothing more than a friend, until one reckless night when she steps into his arms and passion begins. Reading Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novels reminds me of when I was a child and I would sneak glimpses of my grandmother’s Barbra Cartland novels, only Julia Quinn is a much better writer.

Movie Suggestion: Because the world can be a scary place and we all need to sit back and giggle, let’s watch Arthur with Dudly Moore and Liza Minnelli. It’s a rude, lighthearted romp that still feels relevant. Arthur is a wealthy, perpetually drunk, man-child being cared for by his sharp-tongued butler Sir John Gielgud. Arthur’s family has arranged for him to be married to an heiress, but when he sees Liza Minnellli shoplifting a tie he is intrigued and soon falls madly in love. Hijinks ensue. Will Arthur marry the waitress from Queens and give up his fortune?

Wild Card Suggestion: I’m not a fan of going out on a Saturday night, the restaurants and movie theaters are too crowded. Saturday is the day I cook at home, or have friends over. I like to make something that will feed our family for a couple of days. Here is my crowd-pleaser homemade spaghetti sauce recipe that I cook in the crockpot. The sauce can also be simmered on low for several hours on the stovetop in a big pot:

Spaghetti Sauce

1 pound ground beef

1 pound hot italian sausage

4-8 cloves garlic, minced

A handful of fresh oregano, or 2 TBSP of dried Oregano

A handful of fresh basil, or 1 TBSP of dried basil

1 large red onion, diced

1 red bell pepper, diced

2 stalks celery, diced

2 16 ounce cans diced tomatoes

2 28 ounce cans crushed tomatoes

1 16 ounce can tomato paste

2 bay leaves

Kosher salt, to taste

Brown ground beef and Italian sausage in a pa, breaking up the clumps of beef as much as you can. Drain meat on paper towels to drain off the excess fat.

Put the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and crushed tomatoes in the crock pot. Add herbs, garlic, onion, pepper, celery, a teaspoon of kosher salt, and bay leaves to the crock pot. Add the drained sausage and beef. stir all together. If you wanted to add a splash or cup of red wine that would be cool.

Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 6-7 hours. Salt and pepper to taste. Boil pasta to al dente and serve with sauce. Sprinkle with freshly grated parmesan cheese.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

About the Author, K.E. Bonner

K. E. Bonner, author of Witching Moon, was always the first kid to sit down during a spelling bee. It wasn’t until she was an adult that she was diagnosed with dyslexia, which explained why she always had to study three times harder than her peers. Being dyslexic taught her perseverance and kindness, her two favorite attributes. She lives in Georgia with her husband, two sons, and two dogs. When not writing, she loves to read, swim, explore new places, and meet fascinating people. If you have a dog, she would love to scratch behind its ears and tell it what a good pup it is.
