Saturday Night with Author Eva Shaw

We’re back again with another Saturday night! This time we have Eva Shaw, author of the book The Seer. The award-winning author of over 100 books returns with a high-speed new mystery exploring New Orleans’ history of deception and domestic terrorism during World War II.

First, about her book The Seer.

Historically accurate, The Seer is the culmination of extensive research into WWII in New Orleans.  Shaw expertly combines meticulous research with a compulsive narrative that follows Thomas Ling, a Chinese-British scientist, and Beatrix Patterson, a magical psychic. Against his better judgment, Thomas agrees to be Beatrix’s bodyguard in return for, he hopes, psychic information that could stop the imminent bloodshed in his ancestral homeland of China. But can Beatrix really psychically find Nazi cells and saboteurs in New Orleans, a city of secrets? A perfect combination of heart-pounding mystery and extensive historical research, this captivating look into the Crescent City will have you on the edge of your seat as you become part of New Orleans history with the unlikely pair of psychic and scientist.

Can these two change the outcome of the war or will each, so focused on their own goals, cause even more harm with their deceptive mindsets?

Now for her suggestions for your Saturday night. Take it away Eva!

What is your book suggestion?  I love mysteries from cozies to thrillers, but read a host of genres.  I think the best mysteries include locations that feel so real I can step into the book.  I’ve just finished Louise Penny’s The Madness of Crowds and would give it three thumbs up if I had three thumbs (and thank God I do not, just fyi).  Admire the writing of Ann Cleeves, too.  The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.

What is your movie suggestion?  I’m nuts about TV’s British murder mysteries on PBS from “Death in Paradise” to “Agatha Raisin.”  My favorite movie is “The Tourist” with Johnny Depp, as I like the twists and all is not what it seems.  Oh, and “What about Bob” makes me laugh just thinking of it.

What is your wild card suggestion?  My secret TV favorites are cooking shows from “The British Baking Show” to “Chopped.”  I do not love to cook, but I’m really good at it as I’m the world’s most picky eater.  Watching these masters at work just makes my head spin, actually it’s like a magic show to me.  I cannot even imagine how the chefs take foods that would make me squirm and transform them into seemingly delish dishes that look like pieces of art.  Full disclosure:  I probably would eat, but it’s fun to look at them.

Thank you so much Eva!
