If you’ve followed me for some time, you may remember that at one point I shared a call for podcasts on Substack. Then, I also brought it to my blog.
I moved off Substack because it was living alongside other posts I had. It felt weird to share my call for podcasts alongside my whims and reflections. I was also reluctant to use Substack. I’ve written about that extensively already, so I’ll save you the energy of reading that again.
I brought it to my blog because I was excited to have that feature live on my page, highlighting my podcast service. As I was posting, it seemed to be going well, but it started not to feel right.
First, I wasn’t a fan of leaving up the details for all to read all the time. I worried that site scrapers or someone else could just come along and re-copy my posts or something. And who knows if a podcaster really wants their call for guests up all the time for people to just pitch them whenever?
Plus, I came to realize there weren’t many reasons for people to follow my blog. It’s up, live all the time…why follow me?
So I made the decision to move. I can’t say my decision had no transactional goals attached to it whatsoever. It’s a lot of work to put these listings together, and sure, it’d be nice to get compensation for it in some way. But I didn’t want that to be a requirement. I still wanted people to benefit from my listings without having to pay or sign up. I couldn’t figure out a way to make it all work.
There were also SEO concerns. No one would assume this site would have anything to do with podcasting at first glance at the link. I wanted something that could potentially rank higher.
So, I made the call to bring it back to Substack. I have now created a completely new newsletter, Podcast Guest Opportunities. Available for you to follow, and I’d love it if you did!
