I confess I didn’t take economics in college. And whatever I learned about it in high school definitely didn’t stay with me. That’s why I was so excited to put together Dr. Nikki M. Finlay’s blog tour with WOW! Women on Writing. Her book taught me so much! I’m excited to share it with you all.
Before we get to my review, here’s more about the book, The Economy Always Gets Better:

For those of us who forgot what we learned years ago or never had the opportunity to take an economics class, terms like recession, depression, tariffs, inflation, and gross domestic product can make our heads spin.
If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place.
In The Economy Always Gets Better, award-winning economist Dr. Nikki Finlay explains the economy in its simplest terms, making it easier to understand and giving readers the tools to approach even the most distressing economic information with confidence.
Dr. Finlay combines her knowledge and years of academic experience in this practical and accessible guide for anyone wishing to better their understanding of the economy. Using personal stories, useful metaphors, visual representations, and statistical data, she makes economics accessible to everyone.
Whether you’re worried about the current economic troubles or trying to figure it all out for the first time, The Economy Always Gets Better will leave you better informed and better prepared to thrive.
My Review
Dr. Finlay is clearly a teacher at heart. She manages to put together a complicated and admittedly dry concept and manages to make it interesting and informative. Throughout the book, she breaks down complex concepts such as inflation, unemployment rates, supply and demand, and more. She even includes actionable steps at the end of each chapter to help you absorb the information more. Okay, this will come across as a bit like homework, but I loved the challenge because it helped me understand the information.
Plus, Dr. Finlay includes stories throughout each chapter to make the details about the economy feel way more relatable. This is NOT a dry book where your eyes will glaze over. She makes each concept interesting and informative at the same time.
Overall, Dr. Nikki M. Finlay’s book is a must-read if you want to better understand the economy. But more than that, it’s also a good book to read if you want to finally have those conversations about the economy and know what you are talking about. We read about it all the time, and this book helps me understand it more clearly. Plus, if you’re interested in writing about the economy, either in freelance or creative work, this book is a must-read.
