Here’s Billy’s recommendations below:
Your Book Recommendation, The Fourth Turning
The Fourth Turning is a book that provides great insight into cycles and seasons in history and the course of human living to help us all navigate life’s passages. The book was compiled in the 1990s and spoke about a fourth turning that they identified as the middle of the first decade of the 21st century, based on demographic and sociological cycles. The prescient foreshadowing is uncanny as the writers outline clear patterns in history and the future. I feel smarter when I read the book to gain insight into life issues common to all of us.
Your Movie Recommendation: Sherlock Holmes – A Game of Shadows.
For the movie, it’s “Sherlock Holmes – A Game of Shadows.” Robert Downey, Jr and Jude Law crush it in a fast-paced and quizzical mystery movie that always keeps the viewer on edge. The plot balances the prevailing power of good with close calls of calamity from evil. Well-placed humor brings comic relief amidst a serious and suspenseful storyline. The characters are very relatable, and red herrings are laced throughout the story to require discernment and anticipation on the part of the audience. I feel like my reasoning skills have improved because I have developed better critical thinking skills in thinking through the scenes that unfold.
Your Wildcard Recommendation
For the wildcard, a fine 10-year tawny port to watch the sun set at Beaufort, NC, waterfront on an early spring day is one of life’s simple but most excellent pleasures. Seagulls keep good company amidst a quaint setting and a friendly atmosphere to harmonize with the open-air guitar and song from local bards, offering their gift to casual passersby on a casual stroll along the Taylor Creek boardwalk. The salty air and smell of great restaurants draw visitors into the pleasing charm of the town. I find that I am able to breathe in a warmth that calms my soul.
Thank you, Billy! Make sure you check out his book Stockbroken.
