Take it author August!

What is your Saturday night reading suggestion?

Right now, I’m burning through a stack of crime fiction material from either debut authors or authors I’ve never read before, particularly that take my mind off the horrors of the real world. If your best bookish friends don’t have recommendations for what they loved this year, take a look at Maureen Joyce Connolly, Shawn A. Cosby, Wendy Heard, Rachel Howzell Hall, David Albertyn, Gary Phillips, James Ziskin, Rick Treon, Ellen Byron, Paul D. Marks, Nancy Cole Silverman, Glen Erik Hamilton, John McMahon, Carl Vonderau, Edwin Hill, Matt Coyle…yeah, I’ve got quite a list for you. I also have a stack of favorites and classics, but right now, I’m all about getting to know new voices.

What is your Saturday night movie suggestion?

Since my wife and I just brought a child into the world, our Saturday night movie choices are all about comfort and laughs, often with favorites that we know well enough to miss a few minutes and still walk away smiling: Clue: The MovieTommy BoyThe ImpostorsThe Thin Man series with William Powell and Myrna Loy, His Girl Friday with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell.

What is your Saturday night concert suggestion?

I miss people and live music, so I’ve been looking for (and trying to support) live musicians who are trying their best to bring joy into people’s homes – and there’s so much talent out there, from all original tunes by your favorite rock stars to dueling piano cover artists who are playing for tips through their websites and social media. Find Drew De Four, Kin Curran, Steve Savage, Michael Johnson, James Barr, or the Yacht Rock Revue, and see whose show you can enjoy from the comfort and affordable bar tab of your own home on a Saturday night.

Thank you August! Happy Saturday night everyone!

About the book Sins of the Mother

The mysteries that lie within a rural Oregon town are bubbling to the surface — right on time for reporter Caitlin Bergman. In “Sins of the Mother,” (Sept. 8, 2020, Crooked Lane), the story of lauded thriller author August Norman’s headstrong heroine continues, leading both her and readers to a radical cult that has town members agitated and close to their boiling point.

Caitlin doesn’t talk about her mother; in fact, she’s been telling everyone that she’s dead. So when the law enforcement head of Coos County contacts Caitlin to identify her mother’s remains, the journalist heads north to gather details of her estranged mother’s life. Caught between the feuding of the white supremicist Larsens and Daughters of God cult members — and with the identity of her real father hanging just out of her grasp —  Caitlin must unravel the town’s secrets before the fiery prophesied end of days arrives.

Will Caitlin find the answers she’s looking for? First, she’ll need to make it out of Oregon alive. With charismatic villains and complex relationships in tow, Norman’s latest addition to Caitlin’s story is a vibrant and exhilarating ride into the heart of crime fiction. In addition to boasting a compelling female protagonist and intense page-turning drama, the author has crafted a thrilling mystery that will have readers on the edge of their seats — until the very end.

Originally from central Indiana, thriller and mystery author August Norman has called Los Angeles home for two decades, writing for and/or appearing in movies, television, stage productions, web series, and even, commercial advertising. A lover and champion of crime fiction, Norman is an active member of the Mystery Writers of America, the International Thriller Writers, the Sisters in Crime (National and LA), and regularly attends the Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference.
