As you may know from yesterday, I’m taking part in the A to Z Challenge and I kicked it off yesterday with an April Fool’s Joke to my readers.

I’ve decided to take a random approach to the A to Z Challenge this year, because it’s my first year doing it and I don’t want to get too stressed by having a central theme.

So, today is the letter ‘b’ and I want to talk about the [b]est movie crying scenes that I have ever seen. When I’m at work, one of my favorite things to listen to at work is movie scenes! I don’t exactly put on crying scenes all the time, because I think I’d be sobbing at work all the time and that just wouldn’t be cool. But on occasion, I’ll play a few clips in the background and I’ve compiled quite a few that are my favorites.

Here is my top five favorite crying scenes in a movie –

1. Steel Magnolias –

This is one of those scenes that you watch for a good cry. My mom and I have seen this movie more than I can count and every single time we watch this scene we cry. Even if we’re just watching this clip on YouTube, we cry. And then we laugh. And how perfect is that?

2. Bridges of Madison County –

I love this movie so much, because it represents how difficult certain decisions can be, especially when it comes to love and things of the heart. I watched this movie again recently and wow, did I cry.

3. As Good as It Gets

I think this is one of those most overlooked crying scenes. It isn’t Steel Magnolias, but if I recall correctly, Helen Hunt did win an award for her performance in this movie. I think sometimes when you have been released from the “panic” mode of trauma and hard times and get a glimpse of all that has happened, you begin to feel just as she is feeling right in this scene. Very well done.

4. Good Will Hunting

I love being able to add the crying scene from a male actor on this list. I don’t think we see that enough. Men, get your tissue boxes and cry a tear for me here, okay? Because this scene is incredible and makes me cry every time.

5. Pursuit of Happyness

Okay, this isn’t a full on crying scene, but this gives me tears to my eyes every time I watch it. It’s the feeling of triumph and you are just cheering this character on the whole time to make it – and he does.

What is your “best ” crying scene in a movie to watch? What movie always makes you cry no matter what?

  1. Do t.v. shows count? Not quite a crying scene per se, but I just checked on YouTube and the "Breathe Me" sequence of the finale of "Six Feet Under" has not yet failed to send a tear rolling down my cheek.

Just a little one, of course, because guys don't cry at that sort of thing. Really, I swear I didn't bawl like a little girl.

  2. I'm not a fan of sad crying scenes but the ones that get me are the happy ones. The scenes where something happen that is so good that it makes the characters cry.

    *~ MAJK ~*

  3. I'm not a big fan of crying movies. I don't think I've watched all of any of the movies you posted clips from. I did cry in the final Harry Potter movie… and I do every time I watch it (and that's a lot–I'm a hopeless fangirl).

  4. I get into crying movie moods, definitely. But honestly, it doesn't matter what I watch, I can usually find something to cry about. Just that type of girl. My husband loves it. I could do without sometimes. I mean, really – even some commercials set me off. Grr.

  5. Oh my I am so with you on Steel Magnolias – I bawl my eyes out every time. I also cry all the way through the end of Moon Child and Bicentennial Man. I love a good cry in a movie, it is so cathartic.

  6. I am also a big lover of crying scenes. My husband thinks it is weird that I actually enjoy watching movies that make me cry. I can't imagine doing it work, though. I'd be a blubbering mess. I agree with all of your choices. I can think of two more, right off the top of my head, that get me every time, Terms of Endearment and My Sister's Keeper.

  7. The English Patient. TBH, I can cry through the whole thing but that scene when he has to leave her behind in the cave and you just know they're not going to see each other again and she's going to die… Well, the tears start there. Great post, thank you!

  8. I cry at happy endings too..is that weird?
Like the end of love stories?

all fo these are great cries movies, Steel Magnolias brings me to tears just thinking about it.

but mostly I love the human condition and most movies will bring me enough emotion to shed a few tears. I am a very emotional gal.

    loved this list.

    1. Ohhh definitely, I love the happy movies too! And the movies about the human condition are the best and just aren't made enough!

  9. While I think everyone cries when Shelby dies, I always cry at the very end when they are at the Easter picnic. Something about that "life goes on" feel, gets me every time.
My favorite boo hoo movie, Beaches. Wind beneath my wings and all that crap.

  10. I HATE movies that make me cry. Seriously. I avoid them like the plague. Now escapism? Movies that take my mind far, far away? Oh yeah. And books. Especially books. Give me couple of those. šŸ˜‰

P.S. I love that you're avoiding the pressure for year 1. Way to know your limits!

    1. Haha, I know!! I never would be able to last giving myself a theme! If I survive this year, I may try next year with a theme!

Ohhh, I love escapist movies. Those are so much fun!!

  11. i am a guy that does a lot of crying with movie and not ashamed of it i have never been able to watch stepmom with bawling my eyes out and i an sam always get the tears rolling just watched parental guideance and the big old happy tears were streaming at the end of movie. i just a guy that is a crier

  12. A scene, that no matter how many times I've seen it, always make me cry is Emma Thompson at the end of Sense and Sensibility. It's an explosive-decompression, floodgates, kind of cry; that you can't help but empathize deeply with if you've been paying close attention to her character's struggles, and bottling up of emotion, up to that point.
