Thoughts on Uncertainty in Writing

It’s been so long since I wrote on my writing blog! I spotted a blog post prompt from the Insecure Writer’s Support Group and thought this would be a great time to update and reflect. The writing prompt asked:

Have you ever been conflicted about writing a story or adding a scene to a story? How did you decide to write it or not?

I can’t remember the last time I felt completely conflicted about writing a story. Recently though I wrote something that leaned more towards ghost story-ish. I didn’t like it going in that direction, because I’m not that kind of writer, so it ended up being put on the back burner while I work on other things.

Recently, though, my conflict about a story ended up being more about how stuck I was, and I finally got unstuck! I had replaced the main character with another character from a half-finished story. It worked perfectly! I’m now feeling much better about things as a result.

Aside from my writing progress, which finally feels like progress, I have now been at my new job for about 90 days now. I am doing content writing for a marketing company, and it feels like a good direction for my career. I’ve also taken on a couple of freelance projects, and I hope to have some links to share with you soon. Of course, this means my blog has been neglected. I’m not too sad about that, because blogging hasn’t felt the same for me in a while. I like to keep it somewhat up to date, though, so that’s why I’m here today.

So, it’s your turn to answer! Have you ever written something you’ve been conflicted about? And how is your writing going lately?

  1. Nice to hear from you! It’s been a while. No, blogging isn’t quite the same any more, but I like to keep up with the IWSG gang. It was good you could take a character from one story and put them in another, where presumably they fit better. I haven’t tried something like that myself.

  2. I don’t LOVE blogging but it’s part of the business of writing – getting your name out there and increasing exposure. I’ve been posting on IWSG for years and have made great friends and contacts here. I’m always inspired after that first Weds and never fail to find just that push of encouragement to keep me going. Hope this group can be all that for you, too!! Happy Writing!!

  3. Glad you decided to join in this month. Even joining in just for the IWSG each month is a great way to stay connected. Glad you took the drastic step of replacing your main character. That was brave.

I also write content for a web marketing firm. I only work part-time now which gives me more time to be with my mom, who is in assisted living, work on my blog, and write.

  4. Congrats on the new job. Blogging is what you make of it, I suppose. Getting unstuck is wonderful.
Hope you’re having a great day! My latest blog post has my theme for the April #AtoZChallenge (I’m writing speculative fiction and looking for prompts).
At Operation Awesome we have the #PassOrPages query contest going on (friends or enemies to lovers Romance).
Looks like I’ll be very busy the next few weeks!
