[P]remonitions – Do You Have This Sixth Sense?

My first unexplainable – but turned out to be true – premonition started in 2012 when I just got the sense that something not very good was going to happen in April of that next year. I couldn’t pinpoint what exactly or who it would be even be about, but the feeling just wouldn’t leave me alone. Then, at the start of 2013, I thought it may have something to do with some health problems I was having so I went to the doctor to get some things checked out. But it wasn’t that at all.

Then March rolled around and a huge change hit my and my family’s life at that time and then by the time April rolled around, I came to realize the origin of that “bad feeling.” Without going into too many personal details, I know I had sensed it coming. (And I haven’t had that feeling same since.)

My mom has a sixth sense too and she will often get a premonition of things to come (which turn out to be true as well).

And I’m always fascinated about the experiences of others and I know there are other stories out there. In fact, I found a database published on about.com of the premonitions other people have had too. / This is actually something important to do if you do get premonitions – you do want to document what you’ve sensed.

Do you have a sixth sense? Have you ever had a premonition come true?

  1. It's not like I go around predicting stock market results or plane crashes, but I do have this gift when it comes to certain social situations. Let's say I've invited friends to dinner on Thursday, but even as I plan the meal and shop for supplies, I will get a certain feeling. Over the years, I've come to understand that this feeling means the event is not going to happen. Sure enough, the friends will call and reschedule the meal. It's very subtle, I've learned to trust it. Fun post! This isn't something most people talk about. 🙂

    1. How weird is that!! I don't get premonitions a lot but I do pay attention when it isn't attached to anything in particular (like stress over work or worried about a meeting or something like that is one thing but things out of nowhere that don't make any sense or reason like the ones we've experienced, are very different!)

  2. I knew you were going to blog about this today :P.

I get 'feelings' about things and sometimes I look at a situation and think 'I'm sure I dreamed about this some years ago.'
    Love your posts.

    1. Ohhh this letter SOOO called for this word. 🙂 You should start writing those dreams down!

  3. I think the 6th sense is something we all want to believe in and wish that we had. Perhaps we all possess this capacity but the signal is too subtle to be recognised as such above incessant the noise from our daily lives. For now I guess I need to remain satisfied with daydreams.

    1. @P Michaelson: Not a believer, I can tell 🙂 It's hard to see premonitions as being anything but noise until you've experienced them first hand and seen them come true, I guess. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I'm not sure I agree with the quote about our minds and our senses. There are tons of optical illusions that are either our minds arguing our eyes out of what we're seeing, or filtering it and substituting new information so smoothly we're never completely aware of what's actually in front of our eyes. Kinda cool but also creepy. And great to meet you!

    1. Well, I think the quote is just talking about our gut instinct may warn us about something but we go forward anyways (I remember reading this book called 'The Gift of Fear' the describes humans as the one of the few living creatures who goes straight into danger despite having instincts that say otherwise!) Interesting right?

  5. I have dreams. And right before my hubby was diagnosed with cancer, I knew something was wrong with him. And a year before my editor died, a little voice asked me several times what I was going to do when she died.

    Good post!

  6. I have… Nothing that specific but just a general feeling of map pending that usually precedes something good or bad. Good series and post!

  7. Premonitions, intuition, inspiration . . . I believe in the gift of the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit. It is God's way of helping us to learn and know truth in our minds and in our hearts. The more we pay attention to what is told to us in these ways, the better we become at understanding what is given to us.
