Everyone has heard of the Loch Ness monster, but I don’t know if most of us know a lot about it. To be honest, before I started looking around, I didn’t even know where the Loch Ness monster supposedly lived.
So in honor of the letter L today, I thought I would do some digging around and see what I could see about the Loch Ness Monster and tell you ten things I learned about this legend.
1) Loch Ness is actually the name of the body of water near Scotland in Great Britain. The website I found states that the loch is a “tectonic lake resulting from a movement in the earths crust.” (1). Also, the Loch Ness monster is also fondly called “Nessie.”
2) The first siting of the Loch Ness monster was as far back as 565 and then the next siting was the year 1650. But the first picture of the Loch Ness monster was in 1933.
3). The latest siting of the Loch Ness monster was by a couple in June 2011.
4) There is a live web cam to let you view the Loch Ness lake and catch any monster sitings. Visit this link – http://www.nessie.co.uk/view.html.
5) It has been rumored that since the Loch Ness monster hasn’t been seen in over a year that she may be dead. (2)

Isn't it an odd legend? It amuses me that since the monster hasn't been sighted in a year, people think she's dead. Fun post!

If these things are real- and there are equivalents in deep waters in North America and elsewhere- they've been very good at being elusive for many, many centuries.

In one of Diana Gabaldon's books (which deal with time travel), she speculated that Nessie may have been seen over the centuries because of the loch containing a time portal.
I've always been fascinated with the Loch Ness monster and have wondered if the sightings over the years have been Nessie, her children, and her grandchildren.
That really really makes me want to go visit! 🙂
I take the sightings as seriously as I do the Sasquatch (big foot?)
I used to be fascinated by unusual sightings until I saw what turned out to be a plastic grocery bag. From where I was looking, it appeared to be a chicken until I got up close. I'm telling you, my eyes are going bad!
