Three Things on a Saturday Night

What are your plans?

It’s weirdly muggy in Portland today, with a possible chance for rain. We really don’t get this kind of warm rainy weather in the summer (not that I recall). At least it’s not that hot, though!

Here are my suggestions for your Saturday night:

Book Recommendation: Adventures in Retirement, Book 2

I have a long way off before I can even think about retirement. However, I couldn’t help but enjoy reading Adventures in Retirement Book 2. It’s a fun and fascinating true account of a man trying to find himself in his retirement years. Whether retiring is just around the corner for you or a long way off, I’m convinced you’ll enjoy this book.

Movie Recommendation: The Blob (1958)

I was perusing movies on HBO Max last night and found The Blob from 1958. What a fun movie! You have to watch it with the right mind frame of course. But if you haven’t seen it, take the time to watch it. It’s an entertaining monster movie that you don’t want to miss.

Check it out on IMDB for where it’s streaming.

Wildcard Recommendation: Play a Board Game from Childhood

One board game that I loved as a kid was Mall Madness. It was such a blast to set up and see the little mall come together. I can’t even remember the purpose of the game, actually. But I do know I liked it!

I no longer have it, but I was thinking of it recently. I found out the 90s version is on sale for about $200 on Amazon. Can you believe it??? I’d totally sell it on eBay if I still had it. There is a new, modernized version that’s only $20. Much more reasonable.

What board game from childhood would you play if you still had it?

  1. The Blob! I remember when we were all talking about that movie. I may have to find it.

It isn’t a board game but I recently realized that it had been a really long time since I played cribbage. I have got to find an easily understandable set of rules because I don’t remember every little detail and there are a lot.

    1. Cribbage! I had to look it up. Strangely, I’ve never been one for card games, not sure why! So many rules to remember maybe.

      1. And that sums up how I feel about board games. I like them but it takes so much effort to figure them out. My grandparents were devoted card players. Cribbage, bridge, pinochle. I had to look up how to spell pinochle. I don’t really know what it is but they played it!

        1. So many options for card games! It’s at least an inexpensive and minimalist enjoyment. Board games can get expensive and take up too much room!
