Three Things on a Saturday Night

A book, a movie, and a wildcard recommendation.

It’s Saturday! And the end of a major heatwave here in Portland, Oregon. I’m exhausted from it all. Although considering how things on our planet seem to be fairing lately, I guess I should get used to it.

Anyways…

I also wanted to put it out there: if you’d like to be a guest, let me know! Send me an email at npyles86@gmail.com and put in the subject line “Guest Posting for 3 Things on a Saturday Night.” I have a very small following, but it’s easy to contribute. And I can include a blurb about your book or blog, if you’d like. So let me know!

With that said, I have your movie, book, and wild card recommendation for tonight! Oo, and plus, I’ve started adding pictures! *applause*

Movie Recommendation: 2012 (2009)

Yesterday at work, my boss asked everyone on my team (as a fun Friday activity) what movie can you watch over and over (your ‘desert island movie’). For me, 2012 is that movie. I love the special effects and the acting. Sure, it’s a disaster flick, but I love those kinds of movies anyway.

What’s your desert island movie?

Check out 2012 on IMDb to see where it’s streaming near you.

Book Recommendation: The Finalists

I confess I hit a reading slump again for some personal reasons. So, I pulling from the archives of former favorite reads. In The Finalists, you get to know a few college students who are striving for the ultimate scholarship. The whole thing is driven by an elitist family who want just the right person for the award. And everything goes according to plan until someone dies.

I reviewed this one (and some other good ones) on an old blog post of mine.

Add The Finalists to your reading list on GoodReads (oh, don’t let the 3-ish rating deter you; I loved this book).

Wildcard Recommendation: Learn something!

Speaking of academia, I found a few colleges that offer free course materials and even lectures in some cases. And yes, these are free! Not like those websites where they make you pay to access. Here’s a few places I found:

What a way to spend your Saturday night! Did you see any courses that caught your eye?
