Thanksgiving Edition!
It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is next week! I feel like this November went so fast. Freelance writing has quieted down some for me, which is nice and nerve-wracking all at once.
Thanksgiving is one of those pleasant holidays where the really isn’t the same level of pressure and expectation. At least, not to me. But I’m sure there are a lot of people who feel differently, especially if you have a large gathering that day.
Anyway, here are my suggestions for your Saturday night! I hope they provide a pleasant distraction as you prep for the holidays.
My Movie Suggestion: Planes, Trains and Automobiles
This movie recommendation comes from my article on Tom’s Guide where I recommended some of the best 80s movies. That was a near-impossible endeavor since there were so many awesome ones.
So, not only is Planes, Trains, and Automobiles an awesome 80s movie, but it’s also one of my favorite holiday movies. I love John Candy in general. I especially enjoy watching him travel around with Steve Martin. It’s one of those films that I wish had a sequel to it. By the way, depending on how much of a fan you are of this movie, you may appreciate the fact that I recently found the full script to it! It includes deleted scenes we don’t get to see in the movie and a more extensive ending.
Find out where it’s streaming on IMDb.
My Book Suggestion: The City of Ember
Okay so this really isn’t a Thanksgiving-themed novel. But have you ever heard of the series Ember series? I found it a few years ago, and I loved every book in that series. I feel like the holiday season is great for discovering new fiction, and I particularly love young adult fiction.
The first one is about these people who live underground and know no other life. It’s void of any sunshine. All they have available are their lights. Everything changes when the lights start to fail.
Check it out on GoodReads and let me know if you decide to read it!
My Wild Card Recommendation
So, this is kind of a random find I spotted once that I saved for those “just in case” moments and I wanted to share it with you too. This could be something you may want to share with a friend or family member you know is in need. It’s called a “modest needs grant.” I don’t know a lot about it but you can apply for it through this link:

I don’t know that you’ll get a lot from it. I’m certain there are restrictions around this. But you know, you just never know who will find this helpful.
What are your plans for Thanksgiving? What movies do you love to watch? Any Thanksgiving-themed books you can recommend? Let me know in the comments!
