Three Things on a Saturday Night

How has your December been?

It’s December! I appreciate this time of year because of the chill in the air and the hushing quality of the cold weather in general. It’s been a quieter month for me, and I’m thankful for that.

I tried out social media again by trying to get active on Threads this past week. My brief engagement there reminded me that social media just isn’t my thing anymore. Then I thought of Substack! And I realized, hey, that counts, right?

So, I thought I’d do my three things on a Saturday night, although I’m a few hours later than I typically would be. Here we go!

Book Recommendation: The Gold Man Review, Issue 13

This is a shameless plug of self-promotion. Yet, I couldn’t resist. The literary magazine, The Gold Man Review has released its issue, which includes my short story. This is one of my favorite short stories I’ve ever written, and I feel like it represents the type of stories I’d love to write.

So, if you have a few dollars to spare, it’s available on Amazon to purchase. I’d be honored if you bought a copy and let me know what you think!

Movie Recommendation: Miracle Mile

I just watched this movie again recently. And what a movie! Considering the topic, it’s surprisingly not depressing. I love Mare Winningham and Anthony Edwards together. I love the midnight and early morning hours the movie is set in. I even like the weird coffee shop that Anthony Edwards’ character bursts into to announce the phone call he just received.

If you haven’t seen this one before, I encourage you to watch it. It’s an atmospheric movie that takes you b y surprise.

Check it out on IMDB.

My Wild Card Recommendation: 4thewords.com

My creative writing has gone by the wayside a little bit this year. And I’d like to change that. I learned about this fun online community that turns writing goals into a game. And I had to try it! I only just recently signed up, but I can’t wait to use it more. The screenshot I shared above shows you what to expect when you join. The whole vibe of the site reminds me of these games I used to play online growing up. So maybe the nostalgia will inspire me too.
