Review of The Girl Who Ruined Christmas by Cindy Callaghan (And Giveaway)

I’m so glad when a book takes me by total surprise, and this book by author Cindy Callaghan certainly did lately. I’ve been in the middle of a slump lately, and so when I started The Girl Who Ruined Christmas, I had a little bit of a “bah humbug” approach, not thinking I’d like it. Well, you know what? I’m glad I decided to try it because it was just what I needed.

Before I tell you my thoughts about this charming book, here’s what it’s about:

Imagine you’re a tween visiting a small town that loves nothing more than its prize fir—a perfect Christmas tree destined for the White House. Now picture yourself accidentally destroying that tree, making you public enemy number one. Lastly, imagine that to repay your debt, you have to remain in said town for the Christmas season.

That’s what happens to Brady Bancroft.

When Brady ruins Harper Hollow Falls’ prize tree, she’s sentenced to stay in the holiday-festooned town for the month of December. At first, she couldn’t be more depressed about the whole situation; but during her month there, she is surprised to discover that there’s much more than pine needles to the little town holding her captive. In the end, Harper Hollow Falls reminds Brady of the true meaning of Christmas—and she, in turn, saves the town.

My Thoughts:

Like I said, what a charming read! First off, I have to say that I’d love to move to Harper Hollow Falls. It’s filled with joy and Christmas cheer and baked goods shared with the masses. What’s great about this book is how quickly it moved. You go from the beachside to a snow-filled town, and before you know it Brady is in court facing up to her punishment. It’s filled with charm and humor and I loved the characters, even the annoying ones.

At times, it called me to suspend disbelief a little bit. I had a hard time imagining her family asking her to stay in this town by herself, but even then, I still enjoyed this book.

It’s also an incredibly fast read too! I read it within 24 hours, and I think it’d make a great stocking stuffer for kids that love to read.

Make sure you order your on copy on Amazon or on Bookshop.org to support Indie bookstores. Or add it to your GoodReads reading list.
