It’s the holiday season! I just came off from a three-day Thanksgiving break and I’m looking forward to a lengthy time off between Christmas and New Year’s Day. I’m thankful for the extra time off. Not only does it give me the chance for some quality downtime, but I also get the chance to catch up on some things.
Today’s writing prompt from Insecure Writer’s Support Group asked about this in their December prompt:
It’s holiday time! Are the holidays a time to catch up or fall behind on writer goals?
For me, it’s a time to play catch-up! While I don’t strive to work through every day off, sometimes it’s nice to fiddle with projects I’ve been putting off. For example, over Thanksgiving break, I wrote up some book reviews I had fallen behind on. I also tend to regroup during a holiday.
Lately, I was contemplating how I like to write these days. I decided to revert back to digital writing again and I have been using an app called Bublup to create folders with various projects and story drafts. It’s been fun to have a central place again. Not sure I would have done it with some time off!
Plus, holidays tend to be a bit of a challenge for me, so I think writing and focusing on creative projects distract me in a nice way.
How about you? Do you find holidays help you catch up or fall behind on your writing?
I am utterly too busy with the holidays to even think about my WIP, but I’m happy to read that this is your time to catch up. Have a Merry Christmas!
Same to you Cathrina!
I find holidays are a good time to take stock and think rather than take action as such. Then hopefully I have an action plan for going into the new year.
That’s a good way to do it!
Fall behind. This is a rough time of year for me.
Totally understandable!
That’s great that writing helps you handle the holidays. It can be a hard time of the year for many reasons. I don’t focus on writing goals during the holidays.
Fiddle, fiddle, feed the muse – let writing mediate the bad times and amp the good times. Let the words roll –
l love that perspective!
